Human & Rousseau was founded in 1959 with the aim to publish and promote Afrikaans books in particular. We currently publish a great number of English titles and are regarded as one of the most esteemed general publishers in South Africa. The focus of Human & Rousseau is on quality Afrikaans and English literature, popular reads, children and youth books for the general, mass and schools market as well as cookery and factual books.

Human & Rousseau is the South African home of such internationally renowned authors like Breyten Breytenbach, André Brink and Karel Schoeman.
