After Naas Steenkamp’s years in the diplomatic service, he moved to the corporate world. Following 27 years in the mining industry he became an executive director of one of the largest groups, and president of the Chamber of Mines.
As a leading member of a government commission of inquiry into labour law in the late 1970s, he was instrumental in the opening of trade unions to blacks. A deep commitment to conservation led to his becoming chairperson of the South African National Parks Board – now SANparks. This is his first book.
