About this book

Trompie 1: Trompie | Children's Fiction

Topsy Smith

We meet Trompie, the eleven-year-old, freckle-face Big Chief of the Boksom Gang. He and Rooie, Blikkies and little Dawie make life interesting (and sometimes rather difficult!) for the people of Kwaggaberg, their hometown.

Their adventure with the reverend’s baboon gets out of hand and Trompie’s attempt to fix his sister Anna up with a boyfriend goes terribly wrong. Trompie becomes very attached to a playful mongrel but the dog belongs to an old man who will soon be leaving town. The Big Chief’s leadership is threatened and he has to fight it out with his mate Rooie.

And then there is the school concert. Trompie claims he is not interested in taking part but in the end he bets his men that he will actually appear on stage that evening. Our hero is also forced to get himself a girlfriend but soon finds a way to ditch her!
