A little girl who suffered from polio, Miempie, is visiting Lynnekom. She has so much character and spirit that she soon becomes a much loved figure who is adored by Saartjie and her friends. Miempie’s sister, Carolina, is Miempie’s heroine and will do anything to help her – even if it means giving up a promising music career so that her parents can afford Miempie’s medical expenses. Saartjie and Carolina have to compete against each other at the yearly eisteddfod. The prize? A large sum of money which Saartjie wants to donate to animals, but will enable Carolina to continue with her music studies. On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, Saartjie commits an act of compassion that will be remembered by all in Lynnekom for a long time.
