Bridget Pitt

Biographical info

Bridget Pitt is a Zimbabwe born South African writer. Her fist published writing was for a newspaper called Grassroots, which was used by Cape Town black communities as an organizing tool in the anti-apartheid struggles during the 1980s; she also produced media for a number of organizations and ran workshops in media skills.

She later moved onto writing educational material for NGOs, school textbooks, poetry and fiction. She has published poetry in The Thinker magazine, short stories, and two adult novels: Unbroken Wing (Kwela Books, 1998) and The Unseen Leopard (Human & Rousseau). 

The Unseen Leopard was shortlisted for the Commonwealth book prize in 2011, and on a shortlist of three for the 2012 Wole Soyinka Literature in Africa Award. She also received a Commonwealth nomination for a short story in 2012.

When not writing, she is an environmental activist and art teacher.  She lives in Cape Town.
